Tamara Mathebula

Chairperson

Commissioner Mathebula is the Chairperson of the CGE and she sits in the Good Governance, Strategic Planning, Legal and Complaints Committees. She holds a Master Degree in Education (Cum Laude) and she is pursuing her Doctorate in Education with the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University in Melbourne, Australia. She has a clinical background and has worked in several hospitals and clinics in South Africa. She completed and holds a certificate in Gender and Human Rights from the University of Pretoria.

Her leadership experience varies from national to regional education, social development programmes to other leadership responsibilities in the public and civil society sector based programmes and practice with the focus on women, men, young women, girls and boys.

She has years of experience working with national and international donors/funding institutions. She has worked as the former Programme Advisor for the PEPFAR Health and HIV, Gender and Human Rights programme and served many years at the Embassy of Ireland’s national and regional programmes. She has been the lecturer of the Commonwealth Child and Youth Development Programme at the University of South Africa (UNISA). She was the provincial Director for Planned Parenthood Association of South Africa and Love life and worked in the Eastern Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal provinces.

Deputy Chairperson

Dr. Nthabiseng Moleko is the Deputy Chairperson of the CGE and she sits on the Research and Education, as well as the IT and Communication Committees. Apart from her work at the CGE she is a faculty member at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB) where she teaches Economics and Statistics on part time basis.

She is passionate about development economics and development finance, and her mission is to alleviate poverty and bring about positive social and economic change. As a former CEO at the Joe Gqabi Economic Development Agency (JoGEDA) and project manager and researcher at the Eastern Cape Socio-Economic Consultative Council (ECSECC), she has worked extensively in the economic development landscape. At ECSECC she has worked with regulators, policy makers, and the national and regional government, contributing to the design of economic development policies.

She currently serves to advance black economic empowerment as a National Empowerment Fund Trustee appointed by the Minister of Trade and Industry. Nthabiseng holds an Honours in Business Science (Economics) from the University of Cape Town and an MPhil in Development Finance from the University of Stellenbosch Business School. She is currently completing her PhD in Development Finance at USB. Her PhD research focuses on pension funds, savings, capital market development, the Public Investment Corporation and growth.

Mr Sediko Rakolote

Commissioner Sediko Ralolote is a part time Commissioner at the CGE and he sits on the Human Resources and Remuneration Committee, Information and Technology Committee. He holds a Masters in Public Administration, B. Tech in Education Management, National Diploma in Child and Youth Development from the University of the South Africa.

He held several positions in NGO sector, Public sector and Private sector focusing on socio-economic development. He firmly believes in economic transformation as necessary approach to eradicate racism, poverty and all forms of inequalities in South Africa including gender inequalities.

He is a founder and Trustee of Progressive Socio-Economic Investment Institute Trust – Public Benefit Trust that focuses on socio-economic development initiatives targeting historically disadvantaged persons in South Africa.

He is currently pursuing his studies with Nelson Mandela University studying Masters in Conflict Transformation and Management.

Mr Mbuyiselo Botha

Commissioner

Commissioner Botha has worked for Sonke Gender Justice Network, Sharpeville Civic Association and the Red Cross amongst others.

Commissioner Botha is employed as a full time Commissioner at the CGE, where he oversees the IT and Communications Committee as Chairperson. He is also a member of the Finance Committee at the CGE. As a well-known figure in the gender sector, Commissioner Botha is passionate about the role of men in the eradication of gender inequalities and his track record in this regard speaks for itself.

Driven by his passion for gender equality and his quest to meaningfully contribute towards building a South Africa that has men who shoulder the responsibility of creating a safe and equal society for all, he persistently participates at various platforms that are geared to address societal ills like gender-based violence, toxic masculinity and other related subjects. He initiated movements geared to meet gender-related challenges, one of such being the South African Men’s Forum. As a Communicator, Commissioner Botha’s commentary appears in the weekly column in the Sowetan newspaper, i.e. “Gender Imbizo”. On a regular basis he makes commentary in both international and local media. Further to that, he has co-authored a few academic papers and often presents these at conferences on gender-related matters.

Ms Nomasonto Mazibuko

Commissioner

Commissioner Mazibuko is a full time Commissioner, currently Acting Chairperson of the CGE and she sits on the Education and Research as well as the Good Governance Committee. She holds a number of qualifications which include the following; Diploma in Primary Education (Eshowe Teachers Training), Diploma in Conflict Resolution Diploma (Vista -UJ), Diploma in Project Management (Wits) and Advanced Educational training (UCLA)

As an educator, she has worked for the Department of Education for a period that spreads over three decades. She devoted her life to fiercely advocating for persons with albinism in South Africa and throughout the African continent. Inspired by the spirit of Africanism, she founded the Albinism Society of South Africa (ASSA) and the Pan African Albinism Alliance (PAAA).

Her advocacy has ensured the recognition of persons with albinism by the United Nations by declaring June 13 as International Albinism Day. Her passion for disability rights resulted in being appointed a member of the Presidential Working Committee, the National Disability Policy review panel as well as several boards and initiatives in support of social justice.

Her leadership experience varies from national to regional education, social development programmes to other leadership responsibilities in the public and civil society sector based programmes and practice with the focus on women, men, young women, girls and boys.

 

Ms Dibeela Mothupi

Commissioner

Commissioner Mothupi is a full time Commissioner at the CGE and she sits on the Human Resources, Good Governance and Strategic Planning Committees. She holds a Diploma in Public Relations and Business Communication from Damelin Business College, an Advanced Certificate in Governance and Public Leadership from the University of Witwatersrand, and a Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the University of South Africa. She was trained in Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Negotiation at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation. She was also trained in Local Government Management for Councillors through the University of the Western Cape, Integrated Development Planning with internship at Arnhem in the Netherlands. Commissioner Mothupi was once part of the Gertrude Shope Peace and Mediation Network.

She is the founder of an NPO called Women of Virtue, an organisation that renders assistance for women from disadvantaged backgrounds. She served as a Board member of the Pelonomi Hospital from 1999 to 2001. From 1996 to 2000, she worked as a Councillor of the Botshabelo Transitional Local Council in which she became a member responsible for Sports, Arts and Culture and as a result of being a Councillor she got elected in the Free State Local Government Association as General Secretary. Through the latter occupation, Commissioner Mothupi represented the association in the Free State Provincial Local Government training authority and the PROVLOC, an intergovernmental relations coordinating committee. In her past endeavors she was elected as a member of the National Executive Committee of the South African Local Government Association and also served as Chairperson of the Working Group on Gender.

Commissioner Sepanya-Mogale is a part time Commissioner at the CGE and she sits on the Legal and Complaints Committee. She holds a BA (Social Work) LLB and LLM from the University of the Witwatersrand, She is currently as a member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates.

She has extensive experience in working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence. She has also held several senior management positions in all three spheres of government. Her focus has been mainly on constitutional and human rights, social justice with a particular emphasis on gender equality, women empowerment and racism.

Mrs Lindiwe Ntuli-Tloubatla

Commissioner

Ms. Octavia Lindiwe Ntuli-Tloubatla is a full time Commissioner at the Commission for Gender Equality, and sits in the Human Resources Committee and Research sub-committee. She is a graduate of the University of Limpopo, University of Pretoria, University of South Africa and Regenesys School of Public Management. She has extensive knowledge and experience in gender transformation and women empowerment. In her past endeavours, Commissioner Ntuli-Tloubatla worked for the Department of Education as a Gender and Transformation Manager. She has also worked as a Manager for Gender and Women Empowerment in the Office of the Premier in Mpumalanga, where she later became the Strategic Planner.

She has worked as a leader in the organised labour movement through SADTU, NEHAWU as well as COSATU, where she served as a Gender Chairperson and Provincial Treasurer. She developed several documents within the labour movement with special emphasis on Gender and Transformation.

She is the co- founder of the Mpumalanga Chapter of the Progressive Women’s Movement of South Africa and was part of the collective that saw the establishment of the South African Women’s Movement of South Africa, Mpumalanga Chapter. She is a visionary co- founder, and Chairperson of Mercy Re-Wrote Our Lives Cancer Foundation. She is in addition an Associate Member of the Anglican Church Girl Friendly Society (GFS) International. She is a performing poet and a published author; having written books that focus on gender, cancer management and transformation.

Mrs Ohara Ngoma-Diseko

Commissioner Ngoma-Diseko is a full time Commissioner at the CGE and she sits on the Finance and Fundraising, Legal and Complaints, Human Resources and Good Governance Committees of the CGE. She holds a BA (UNISA), Master of Education (Wits), Master of Public Administration (University of Pretoria), a Higher Education Diploma (UNISA), a Higher Diploma for the Educators of Adults (Wits) and a Senior Executive Programme certificate (Harvard/Wits).

She is a teacher by profession, and her interest in education evolved from school to adult education with an interest in learning for transformation and empowerment. This passion evolved over many years of activism in the struggle for liberation, as a teacher, a community worker and an organiser for the Federation of Transvaal Women (FEDTRAW).

She has worked with women in several communities, trade unions and the church. Her work involved organising and coordinating women’s development projects like early childhood development, income generation and women’s health focusing on cervical cancer. Following the democratic elections, Commissioner Ngoma-Diseko worked as a civil servant since 1996 as one of the first senior managers employed in the first Department of Public Service and Administration to drive the rationalization and creation of a single public service. During her tenure as a public servant, she served as Chief Director for Conditions of Service and Chief Director for Human Resource Development and finally as Deputy Director General for Corporate Services. Her experience in this regard involved legislative reform, policy making, training and education for the new public service.

Mx Busisiwe Deyi

Mx. Deyi is a part time Commissioner at the CGE and they sit on the Legal and Complaints Committee. Apart from their work at the CGE, they are also a faculty member of the Department of Jurisprudence, Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria. They hold an LLB (Nelson Mandela University), LLM in Human Rights and Democratisation (University of Pretoria), MA in Gender and Law (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London).

They have worked with and undertaken research and consultancy work within the South African legal NGO sector focusing on equality and non-discrimination in general as well as gender in/equality specifically. Previously they worked as legal researcher for Justice Edwin Cameron and Justice Nonkosi Zoliswa Mhlantla at the Constitutional Court of South Africa.

NGOs they have worked with/for include Gender DynamiX, the Legal Resources Centre, the Women’s Legal Centre Trust, the ISLA (Institute for Strategic Litigation in Africa). They have also worked on notable cases concerning the rights of transgender and Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual persons including the Tanzania 13 Case (Tanzania), KOS and Others v Minister of Home Affairs and Others (South Africa).
